Kozloduy NPP will submit to the Nuclear Regulatory Agency the documents, which will request the extension of the operation of the 6th block of the plant in September, the BNR announced.

In an interview with the Horizon program, Kozloduy NPP Executive Director Ivan Andreev said that the bloc could work for another 30 years after the program to extend its resource is realized. The power plant will request a 10-year license for operations, which is the maximum allowed by law, pointed out Andreev

"The tasks for the most part have been completed, the other, different types of measures will be implemented during the licensing period, and we will continue to monitor our equipment and, if necessary, take additional measures. All of this, as documents, will be submitted to the Nuclear Regulatory Agency and we expect that in the next year we will obtain the license for the 6th block. You know that for the 5th block we are already working with the extended resources and on the 6th we have increased power " he said.

In order to increase the power of the 5th block of Kozloduy NPP, the plant hopes to finish talks with NEK by the end of the month in order to buy the rotor from the old equipment delivered to Belene NPP years ago.

Until now, for activities to prolong the life of the reactors and to increase their capacity, the plant has given about half a billion BGN.
