Plovdiv City Council will decide Thursday whether or not to comply with a proposal of deputy-mayor Rozalin Petkov for the municipality to end its participation in the fund which provides financing for low-cost flights from Plovdiv Airport. The Municipality invested BGN 600,000 (about EUR 300,000) in the fund for the last 3 years, which resulted in only one low-cost line being maintained at the airport, local newspaper Maritsa reported.
“It turned out we do not need the fund, the Municipality has its own means to promote tourism in Plovdiv. Plovdiv Municipality versed BGN 250,000 in the fund a year, to no result”, mayor Ivan Totev stated. “The airport itself is privately managed and the company has all the rights to organize flights from and to the airport”, Totev added.
Meanwhile, it became clear that there are plans for the opening of a new direct airline Plovdiv – Istanbul, Plovdiv County Governor Zdravko Dimitrov said, after he and Plovdiv Airport CEO Doichin Angelov met with representatives of Turkish BoraJet.
