Sofia Airport reported a decline of 6.4% in passenger traffic for the last nine months
Around 2.7 million passengers were carried in the capital airport during the period

From January to September 2012 Sofia Airport handled 6.4% less passenger flights, reported the press office of the airport. Decrease compared to the same period in 2011 was observed in the number of season tourist flights and domestic flights.

33,812 flights were served on the airport - a decrease of 6.4 percent. Business aviation and cargo flights marked a growth - respectively 11% and 5%.

3.3% is the increase in processed volumes of cargo and mail. During the last nine months of this year the goods transported by specialized cargo flights are 17 per cent more than last year.

A total of 2,689,132 passengers are served on time. From the airport stated that despite the small number of airlines level of passengers for the same period in 2011 remains. This is due to a growth in passengers served by "Bulgaria Air", Wizz Air, Niki, Ausrtrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and EasyJet.

Most flights were made by the national carrier "Bulgaria Air". Wizz Air, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines and EasyJet fill ranking of the five most active airlines using the airport in Sofia.

The leading destinations for this period are London, Vienna, Paris, Milan and Varna.
