The calculations of the Bulgarian transport ministry show that ten infrastructure facilities lent on concession would bring some BGN 1 bn (about EUR 500 m) investments in the country, minister Ivailo Moskovski said during a forum on the foreign investments in transport, logistics and engineering.
BTA cited Moskovski highlighting the airports in Varna and Burgas as two of the ten strategic facilities which have been upgraded despite some initial obstacles. The two airports have new runways and terminals. Sofia Airport is also one of the top ten facilities that are expected to contribute for attracting foreign investments.
Moskovski further said that the airports in Plovdiv, Ruse, Gorna Oriahovitsa and the ports in Varna, Burgas, Vidin and Lom are also prepared for concession. Several train stations in the country are also underway, the minister said.
He added that the government has big expectations regarding the privatization of state-run freight railway operator BDZ Tovarni Prevozi. Selling the freight branch of BDZ is one of the main points in the plan for restructuring of the state railways.
