  • Delyan Dobrev will be the new energy minister of Bulgaria

The Bulgarian Prime-Minister Boyko Borisov announced, that the minister of economy energy and tourism Traycho Traykov will be replaced by his current deputy-minister Delyan Dobrev and the specific reason is the failed economic forum in Qatar this week. The forum was organized by the economic ministry at 10 am in the morning, which is a big mistake, Borisov said, and the whole visit there was very well prepared by the exterior minister Nikolay Maladenov.

I would like to thank Mr Traykov for his efforts until now, but from now on Mr Dobrev will do better, he said, citing projects such as South Stream, the gas interconnector with Turkey, etc. Dobrev is 33 years old, but until now he managed things very well, the prime minister said. The ministry’s responsibilities are too large, but we do not have the time to restructure it now, he added.

We started together with Traykov many initiatives, Borisov said, this is the most difficult ministry, but for the past three years we had only “started” them. If we compare Bulgaria’s energy from this mandate and the previous, there is no difference, he added. The energy sector is not more independent from anything, and we will be turning the first sods for the gas interconnectors this year.

The prime minister announced that he sent Traykov to Russia to announec that Bulgaria does not want to build the Belene NPP, but wants the reactor to be installed as a 7th unit in Kozloduy NPP. Still the report of HSBC is expected, and only it could give an objective view whether the project makes sense. The prime-minister will also propose referendums for Belene NPP project and for the shale gas, as he thinks that the statesmen’s views on both issues would be subjective.
