The Solaris low-floor tram beat off strong competition to win the Automotive and Public Transport category of this international award. TOP Design Award is presented during area DESIGN exhibition and recognises modern product and industrial design. Particular emphasis is placed on designers and businesses working in close collaboration

The Solaris Tramino low-floor tram takes up the lines of the Urbino city bus and applies them to urban rail. The characteristic asymmetric windscreen emphasises that this tram belongs to Solaris’s comprehensive product line-up for state-of-the-art public transport. The clean lines of the design are continued inside the tram, with premium materials and attractive form combining to create a sensation of spaciousness.

First presented in 2009, the Solaris Tramino now is in volume production with 45 units currently being delivered to Poznań City Transport. These 32-metre long, six-axle articulated trams carry up to 229 passengers. Short stop dwell times are guaranteed by double doors with a width of 1,500 mm, while the aisle is at least 750 mm wide even above the bogies, ensuring excellent passenger flows within the vehicle. From 2013 on, the Tramino will also run abroad: German operator Jenaer Nahverkehr GmbH has ordered five Tramino, which will be tailored exactly to the operational requirements of Jena’s tram system.
