An e-mailed statement from the power plant's management said that the heaters are not related to nuclear and radiation safety because they fall into the so-called 2nd contour of the reactors which is radiation-free

Following recent publications in Bulgarian and Russian media that Bulgaria’s sole nuclear station at Kozloduy bough low-quality equipment, from the power plant’s management released an official disclaimer.
According to Kozloduy NPP management the high-pressure heaters delivered by Russia’s ATP-Atomtoploproekt OOD Bulgaria are reliable. They are meant for the power stations 1,000MW-units and were mounted during the planned annual overhauls of the two units in October 2010 and May 2011, respectively.
The e-mail statement also said that the heaters are not related to nuclear and radiation safety because they fall into the so-called 2nd contour of the reactors which is radiation-free. The heaters are aimed at simply increasing the energy conversion efficiency of the units, the statement read further.
From Kozloduy ensured that they have requested more detailed information on the heaters from ATP-Atomtoploproekt OOD Bulgaria. Kozloduy representatives would also send a delegation to the factory of ZiO-Podolsk, where the heaters were manufactured.
