The Supervision Committee and the organizations that would use it, declared that the project planned for Poduene train station is no longer viable

During today’s forum dedicated to OP Transport 2007-2013 in Bulgaria, Stilian Krotnev from the National Agency Rail Infrastructure (NARI) talked about the major projects which are on their way to completion. He highlighted the modernization of the railroad Plovdiv – Svilengrad – Turkish border, which is carried out within priority axis 1 and is due to be completed by end-2012.
Within priority axis 5, NARI also implemented a geographic information system (GIS) which should be fully functional in the next months.
Krotnev said that the planned intermodal terminal in Sofia will not be carried out, explaining that the Supervision Committee and the organizations that would use it, declared that the project planned for Poduene train station is no longer viable. The BGN 4 m spent on it so far were spent for assessment of the project and acquisition of lots that would be used by NARI anyway. A new location for the terminal in Sofia would be chosen after a consultant is designated for it.
Within the current programme period such terminal will be built in Plovdiv instead. The call for tender would likely start in early 2012.
