EVN Bulgaria with New Cogeneration Unit
The gas cogeneration unit, built by Siemens, has energy conversion efficiency of over 90%

EVN Bulgaria today opened its new cogeneration power plant. The official opening ceremony was attended by Bulgarian and Lower Austria PM’s Boiko Borisov and Dr. Erwin Pröll, Bulgarian Energy Minister Traicho Traikov, Regional Development Minister Rosen Plevneliev, EVN AG board chairman Peter Lair and EVN Bulgaria board chairman Jorg Sollfelner, Plovdiv Municipality governor Ivan Totev and Plovdiv mayor Slavcho Atanasov.
 
The new unit has total heating capacity of 54 MW, while its electric capacity is 49.9 MW and energy conversion efficiency of the gas turbine of over 90%. The cogeneration will run on natural gas and will produce 290,000 MWh yearly, which represents a 3-fold increase of the current capacity of the thermal power plant in Plovdiv. BGN 100 mln (about EUR 50 mln) were invested in the new unit which was built by German company Siemens.
