Iran-Turkey Gas Supplies Disruption after an Explosion
The Middle East country has the second largest gas deposits in the world

The supply of natural gas from Iran to Turkey has been disrupted after an explosion damaged a section of the gas pipeline between the two countries, reported CNN Turkey. The explosion occurred yesterday at 11:10 p.m. local time in Turkey’s eastern province of Agri, bordering Iran. Many units of firefighters were dispatched to the scene of the pipeline blast, and valves were closed soon after the explosion. There were no causalities in the explosion. No one has claimed responsibility for the blast that bears the hallmark of those carried out by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants.

Right after the explosion Managing Director of Iran’s National Gas Company Javad Oji has expressed readiness to cooperate with Turkey’s state-owned pipeline company, Botas, to restore the flow of natural gas as soon as possible. According to Iran National Gas company, the exports to Turkey are about 30 million cubic meters on a daily basis. The export of gas from Iran to Turkey was halted on July 29 after an explosion struck the pipeline near Maku in Iran.Iran succeed to resume the gas export two days later.
