Austrian Airlines carried approximately 646000 passengers in February 2010 according to data posted yesterday by the company. This is 4 percent more than in February 2009 and the load factor of the flights rose by 3.4 percentage points to 72 percent, Austrian announced. The capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) was reduced by 3.1 percent. Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) rose by 1.7 percent.
The members of the Austrian Airlines Executive Board, Andreas Bierwirth and Peter Malanik, have said the following: "The passenger volume is gradually recovering. The situation with yields, however, remains tight. Prices are under pressure." In the period from January to February 2010, the number of passengers carried, around 1.3 million, was 3.9 percent above the previous year's figure. The load factor rose by 4 percentage points to 70.6 percent. We reduced our ASK by 5.4 percent. RPK rose slightly, by 0.3 percent.
Austrian Airlines has adjusted the segmentation of its traffic regions to the structure of the Lufthansa Group. In February, around 510,000 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines within Europe. This is the equivalent of an increase of 8 percent compared to the same month the previous year. In the period from January to February 2010, the company carried around one million passengers in Europe which is 7.6 percent better than the previous year, Austrian announced.
