EMI Organizes Tomorrow Energy Day in Sofia
The topic of the second annual event will be "Critical energy infrastructure: are we ready to meet today
AUTHOR: publics.bg

For the second consecutive year the Energy Management Institute (EMI) and the Bulgarian National Committee for the World Energy Council are organizing an Energy day in Sofia, Bulgaria. This year's event will be devoted to the topic: "Critical energy infrastructure: are we ready to meet today's challenges?". The topic is related to the recent unprecedented tragedy in Japan. With increasing force questions are rising about the risks and the vulnerability of European infrastructure from both natural and intentional and unintentional human threats. More clearly outlines the acute need for the establishment and operation of appropriate structures and mechanisms for risks regulation.

Evidences suggest that at the European level sufficient efforts haven’t been made to develop a common policy to protect critical energy infrastructure. Responsibility for security of the systems of critical energy infrastructure, on which the whole society relies, remains at national level - of the governments of the Member States. Some of them have established adequate policies and measures in this regard, others, however, do not. However, the integration of European energy markets proceeds at rates that make countries more and more interdependent. Despite this ever-increasing degree of commitment between countries, achievements in the development of a common European policy are not outstanding - basic legislation remains adopted after numerous discussions 2008/114/EC Directive which main objectives are contained in the title - the identification and definition of the European critical infrastructure.

Energy Management Institute (EMI) is an NGO that started its operation in June 2010. The founders are EVN Bulgaria, EON Bulgaria, CEZ Bulgaria and Overgaz. Its mission is to contribute to sustainable development of the Bulgarian energy sector and its integration to that of the European Union. Improving international cooperation and borrowed on international experience aims at introducing established practices in Bulgaria. EMI in its role as think tank offers innovative ideas in the field of energy policy as presented studies using an academic approach.

The Bulgarian National Committee for the World Energy Council (NCBWEC) is the Bulgarian Member Committee of the World Energy Council. NCBWEC organizes the Bulgarian participation in WEC activities, participates in international energy projects organized by WEC, and promotes and disseminates information about WEC. NCBWEC is established in September 2002. It is a non-profit organization devoted to the social benefit. NCBWEC is a voluntary association of individuals and private and public entities.
