Renault Romania, Electrica, Schneider, Siemens Develop Electric Car Charging Network

Renault has started selling electric car models Renault Fluence ZE and Renault Kangoo ZE in Romania

Renault Romania has signed deals with power supplier Electrica, Schneider Electric and Siemens to develop the infrastructure necessary for the use of electrical vehicles in Romania, the four companies said Sunday, Mediafax reported. A team of experts from the four companies will develop a plan over the next three months to implement and maintain a recharging network for electric cars.

Renault has started selling electric car models Renault Fluence ZE and Renault Kangoo ZE in Romania. The latter costs around EUR 21,000, while Renault Fluence ZE, EUR 15,000. Renault officials have announced that the company will launch four electric vehicles on the international markets from autumn 2011 until mid 2012. Renault has also recently announced that 80 percent of its electric cars will be made in France by 2015.

These are the first steps towards the use of cars with zero carbon emissions in Romania. Other countries in Europe have already made these steps. For example, there are 2,000 electric cars in London, where a network of 400 charging points has been created. This network has recently been upgraded with 150 more charging points. Londoners pay GBP 100 year, which allows them to charge their electric cars at supermarkets, in car parks and on the road in the UK capital city.
