According to Bulgaria’s energy minister Traicho Traikov the new RES bill would make investments in the sector more predictable because of the electricity price would be fixed for the entire period of the contracts with renewable energy producers. This was made clear during a meeting of Traikov with EU ambassadors, which was organized by Hungarian ambassador Judith Lang.

The new renewable bill was earlier criticized by several associations of producers. According to them, it would affect negatively the development of the sector and lead to shut down of plants and even lead to higher electricity prices and financial sanctions because of missed renewable energy targets for the country.

According to minister Traikov however, the new law might make less attractive only big solar power plants because of their production being expensive even at the current moment. On the other hand the bill guarantees the yearly actualization of prices due to raw materials for biomass plants and photovoltaic panels installed on rooftops on residential, administrative or production buildings for local energy needs.

Traikov highlighted the fact that the energy ministry has also signed a contract for energy efficiency funding with the EBRD. He also talked about Belen NPP’s feasibility and security study, which would be crucial for the final decision about the construction of the nuclear plant.
