Cyprus Secures EUR 25 Mn. for Renewable Energy
The national plan foresees the construction of 300 MW of wind power capacity and 200 MW of solar power plants

Cyprus foresees a substantial growth of renewable energy in the country in 2011, the Bulgarian National radio reported. The government has secured over EUR 25 mn. Budget for the implementation and development of green energy this year.

Accordyng to the country’s Ministry of commerce, the consumption of renewable energy has reached 4.8% in 2010. The Ministry expressed its optimism that by 2013 the island nation will produce as much as 13% of its electricity from renewable.

The previous budget for green energy for the period 2005 – 2010 amounted to EUR 67 mn. The national plan foresees the construction of 300 MW of wind power parks and 200 MW of solar power plants. The government reported that the installed photovoltaic capacity on residential and public buildings has increased significantly.

Cyprus expects to reach a 23%-share of renewable in heating and air-conditioning and as much as 10 percent in transport.
