The World’s Highest Power Line to Be Built in Tibet
Nokia Siemens Networks supports critical communications for Qinghai-Tibet power grid

The State Grid Corporation of China is building a Qinghai-Tibet power grid to improve and optimize power allocation in the region. It has selected Nokia Siemens Networks’ optical transmission platform to help ensure consistent power supply for the world’s highest power transmission line. The power grid is the largest construction project in the region and is scheduled to be operational by mid 2012.

The project is connecting Tibet’s grid with the northwest China grid, integrating all provinces in the service area for the first time. It will also enable the western region to achieve improved and faster economic development. In a large-scale project like this, critical functions such as operations, maintenance and safety depend on secure and uninterrupted communications.

After successful deployment of DWDM products such as Surpass hiT 7500 and hiT 7300 for State Grid backbones in this region, Nokia Siemens Networks will provide its proven Surpass hiT 7065, the Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP) for the Qinghai-Tibet power grid. This will help to build the robust communication backbone for huge data transmission to guarantee seamless Smart Grid evolution.

Nokia Siemens Networks will also supply its all-in-one Transmission Network Management System, TNMS to optimize State Grid’s network operations through centralized control and supervision. Services including installation, project management and system integration form an essential part of the overall scope of the project.
