The press-center of the Bulgarian Ministry of Economy, Energy and Tourism (MIET) announced that minister Traicho Traikov expressed in an interview for the Austrian newspaper “Der Standard” his views about the gas pipeline project Nabucco. According to Traikov, “from an economic point of view Nabucco is a perfect project, but unfortunately not enough is done for its realization. The EU should have a more active position on it”, he said. According to Traikov, the project faces failure if the European Commission is no longer supporting it. “Brussels should use its diplomatic authority more in order to convince Turkmenistan to supply gas for Nabucco. As gas from Iran is a political taboo currently, the key for supplying gas to Nabucco and for making the project viable is Turkmenistan”, the Bulgarian minister said. According to him, possible suppliers for the pipeline are also Northern Iraq and Azerbaijan, but a more clear EU course is needed there. “It is expected from Europe to speak in a single voice, but large states in the EU ignore this”, minister Traikov also said.
Der Standard also reminds that Bulgarian Energy Holding and Gazprom signed a week ago a joint-stock company for the mutual realization of the “South Stream” pipeline on Bulgarian territory. “Sofia and Moscow removed some important differences”, the Austrian newspaper said. “We are chasing all options and there is enough gas for everyone”, minister Traikov also said for the newspaper “Der Standard”.
