The Romanian news agency Mediafax announced that the construction of highways in the country will have a standard cost per kilometer between 5.05 and 6.1 million EUR without VAT included. Capital repair works on a railroad will cost 1.19 million EUR per km, VAT not included. The prices are set in a draft government decision drawn up by the Romanian Transport Ministry, the report says. The draft includes 12 cost standards for investment objectives financed from state budget funds in the field of transport infrastructure.
Cost standards will be updated periodically or every time it is necessary, through Government Decision, at the suggestion of the Transport Ministry, in accordance with the evolution of technical progress and the prices of resources specific in the field of transport infrastructure, and/or based on the requests submitted by other competent bodies, Mediafax reports. Cost standards target to eliminate the poor or extra financing caused by errors in setting the costs of investment works for objectives in the field of transport infrastructure.
The approval of the draft act will also allow an increase in investment objectives in the sector of transports countrywide, an increase in the absorption rate of European Union funds and the adjustment of public spending, through investments, both to the needs of end beneficiaries and to existing financial resources.
