Ministers and political representatives responsible for water management in river basins in the Danube region of the 14 Danube countries - Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Germany, Moldova, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Ukraine, Hungary, Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic, and the European Commission will participate in a ministry meeting of the Parties to the Convention for cooperation, conservation and sustainable use of the Danube, announced by the Ministry of Environment and Water (MEW). International Commission for the Protection of the Danube (ICPD) will host this meeting to be held on 16 February in Vienna, Austria. Bulgaria will be represented by Deputy Minister of Environment and Water Ivelina Vasileva, which is representative of our country in the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube.

The forum of Ministers is expected to give political support to the Management Plan of the International Danube Basin, which outlines specific measures in 2015 to improve the ecological status of the Danube and its tributaries, said from MEW. The measures include: reducing pollution from organic and nutrient; compensate for environmentally damaging structural changes of the river caused by human activities, upgrading of the sewerage systems for wastewater from the settlements, offering sulfat free detergents (detergents) in all markets ; effective management of risk of accidental pollution. Moreover, measures will be considered to restore the continuity of the river to fish migration and the links between wetlands and river. The plan takes the approach "from source to sea" and covers the basic requirements of the Water Framework Directive of the European Union.

Also action plans for floods for 17 basins in the Danube basin will be discussed. These plans of sub-basins, which will be supplemented and refined over time, contain measures that Danube countries must take to protect the population and to reduce damage and losses from floods like those caused by massive floods in 2002, 2005 and 2006 reminded by the ministry.
