Today Mobiltel, a member of Telekom Austria Group (VSE: TKA, OTC US: TKAGY), officially announced that they have signed pre-arrangements for the 100% acquisition of two operators of high-speed fixed networks – Spectrum Net AD and Megalan Network Ltd. Now the approval of the deal by the Commission on protection of competition is to be obtained and after that the deal will be closed. The two acquired companies will continue working alone for a period of about 18 months and their management and employees will not be changed.

The intention to acquire the two leading alternative optical network operators is a natural continuation of the consistent strategy of Mobiltel as an integrated telecom operator, offering overall telecommunication solutions. The company intends to develop the supply of the broadband services in the country to worldwide corresponding levels. With the acquisition of two of the leading providers in Bulgaria, Mobiltel will be able to capitalize the huge potential on the market of fixed broadband Internet and the supply of combined services.

„This is a strategic step which will allow Mobiltel to strengthen its position of an integrated telecom operator and will provide our growth on the already existing market. With the acquisition of the two operators Mobiltel will turn into one of the biggest suppliers of broadband services, especially in the big cities of the country. Our goal is to meet the increasing demand for combined services of fixed and mobile telephony, fixed and mobile Internet, and in addition to these - television”, says Andreas Maierhofer, Chief Executive Officer of Mobiltel.

“The convergence of fixed and mobile communication has become a key feature of the telecommunication market. This trend is clearly visible in Telekom Austria Group’s domestic market and is now also increasingly shaping the competitive environment in Bulgaria. As such, the planned acquisition of two fixed net operators will be the natural step for Mobiltel”, commented Hannes Ametsreiter, CEO of Telekom Austria Group.

Mobiltel confirmed that they will keep and further develop the proactive approach the two companies have towards their customers. The deal will lead to a series of additional benefits for the customers – a widened portfolio, many and different packets of services, including sets of three and four services in one. The packet services will help reducing the bills for the subscribers of combined solutions, as they will be able to benefit from many discounts. The integrated solutions will also save the customers’ time – they will have only one operator for the different services they use, so they would pay one single bill. The newly acquired Internet service providers complete each other in terms of offers for their customers and this will provide Mobiltel with the possibility to attract and serve corporate clients and households. Specter Net is the biggest alternative operator, a leader on the market of business clients, present in 13 Bulgarian cities and a focus on broadband internet and voice services for corporate clients and households. Megalan is a leading provider of home broadband Internet for Sofia. The portfolio of the company includes IPTV services as well.
