Total E&P Bulgaria BV and its partners in the Khan Asparuh project - OMV Offshore Bulgaria GmbH and Repsol Bulgaria BV, will provide funding to three universities to support their initiatives aimed at training Bulgarian specialists in the oil and gas industry, Total E&P Bulgaria announced. Other research activities will also be supported in the Black Sea. Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski", University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" and the Higher Naval School "N. J. Vaptsarov" had the opportunity to participate in a competition announced earlier this year and to apply for support for their projects. The proposals were reviewed and evaluated by experts from Total E&P Bulgaria. Three projects were selected and will receive funding totaling more than € 70,000.

The first approved proposal was developed jointly by the Sofia University and the University of Mining and Geology and is aimed at the exploration of geological strata of Kamchia river. The project will help students in their training by improving their practical skills.

Higher Naval School "N. J. Vaptsarov" in Varna will also receive funding for the creation of a center for remote monitoring of oil spills, which will contribute to the environmental preservation of the Black Sea coast.

The third approved project is the renovation of a chemical laboratory at the Faculty of Geology and Geography of the Sofia University, which will provide better conditions for the students' training as well as for conducting research activities.

"The education of young people is one of the main pillars of the social responsibility policy of Total E&P Bulgaria. We are happy to once again partner with Bulgarian universities and support them in the implementation of important projects that help the students to deepen their knowledge and develop their potential," said Kevin Hanapord, General Manager of Total E&P Bulgaria.

The company is a valuable partner of several academic institutions, which has supported many times not only through donations of funds, equipment and specialized literature, but also by sharing knowledge, organizing courses for students led by Total's specialists.

The company is in the process of renewing its framework contracts for cooperation with two of its main partners - the University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" and the Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski". These agreements will continue to be a platform for long-term and strategic cooperation on education, science and innovation in the field of exploration and extraction of oil and gas.
