Manchester Airport Group (MAG), the largest British airport group, today confirmed its intentions to take part in the concession tender for Sofia Airport, which was launched by the Bulgarian government on 5 July 2018. This is clear from a press release from the company.

At the moment, MAG manages three major airports in the UK - Manchester, London Stansted and East Midlands, which combined serve 60 million passengers a year to more than 270 destinations through 70 airlines.

The company's ownership structure includes Manchester City Council and Municipal Authorities as well as long-term private investors (IFM Investors). This type of property ensures that the core of the company's growth is the ability to balance the commercial priorities of airports with its commitment to working closely with local communities around each site. This ensures that there will be benefits in terms of investment and job creation, and that environmental protection will also be guaranteed.

MAG operates each of its airports as a stand-alone facility with a deep understanding of the aspirations and interests of the local population, employees and economic partners. The company also understands the responsibility of managing an airport, given the economic growth and prosperity that it can bring to any city, region or country. MAG has the practice of working with local companies as suppliers. The company, together with a team of local consultants, has been analyzing for more than two years the potential of Sofia Airport and today proudly announces that it is the first consortium to confirm participation in the procedure.

MAG's offer will be backed by the Chinese construction giant BCEG, which is already working with MAG on the Manchester City UK construction project, one of Britain's most prominent examples of cooperation with China in the area of infrastructure development. The inclusion of the BCEG will also lead to new opportunities for cooperation between Bulgaria and China.
