Energy Minister Temenujka Petkova expects the procedure for selecting a strategic investor and the structure of the Belene project to be completed by the end of October. This became clear after a meeting of the Energy Minister with representatives of the employers' organizations. According to her, the documentation is prepared according to the parameters laid down in the decision of the National Assembly - the project to be implemented on a market principle and without granting a state guarantee.

The representatives of the employers' organizations supported the work on building new gas connections between Bulgaria and its neighboring countries in order to guarantee the national consumption at competitive prices.
Minister Petkova informed the participants about the upcoming talks with Gazprom after the decision of the European Commission in the gas company case, which allowed the contractual conditions with it to be changed. It was clear that diversification and competitive energy supplies are a top priority for the government and it is working actively for its realization.
The challenges for the Bulgarian energy sector, related to rising carbon prices, were also among the topics discussed. In recent months, carbon prices have grown significantly, reaching levels of 25 euros / tonne. A working group is currently being set up at the Ministry of Energy to propose short-, medium- and long-term measures to get out of the situation. The group analyzed the experience of other countries, including Germany, Italy and Belgium. The measures are expected to be presented to stakeholders in October.
