![]() AI-Firm Ambyint Announces New Deal with Equinor
The AI-firm Ambyint has announced a new deal with the company Equinor to deploy its artificial intelligence systems to help optimize all of Equinor-s Bakken Shale wells, the Journal of Petroleum Technology reports. Announced last week, the deal is understood to be one of Ambyint’s largest contracts to date. Specific numbers have not been shared, but public data shows that Equinor operates more than 800 wells in North Dakota. Ambyint, which is headquartered in Calgary, said the project scope may eventually include all of the Norwegian-owned operator’s horizontal wells in the state as they transition to rod pump. This upgrade is a new milestone in the evolution of oilfield automation, which have been reliant on SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) systems for decades. One of the drawbacks of the current system is that it requires a large amount of personnel to interpret SCADA data and then adjust set-points to get pumping units back into optimal operating ranges. This manual process is very time consuming, especially in the case of several hundred fields. “What we are talking about is having the machine do that entire workflow,” Chris Robart, Ambyint’s president of US operations said. “We are freeing up individuals to go do other things, like think about new technology, troubleshoot failed equipment, deal with workovers, or new well designs,” Robart added. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
