Pipeline laying operations began in the Turkish coastal zone for the Turkish stream project. The announcement was made by the company that is executing the project, BNR reports.

The works are near the village Kayakov, located in the Turkish part of the Thrace region on the Black Sea coast, where the pipelines for the project will begin.

The construction of seabed trenches with a length of about 2.4 km began on Sunday and is expected to last between four and eight weeks. The trenches begin from the shore and its purpose is to protect the pipeline from sea turbulence and other unfavourable weather conditions. The project company also announced that the world’s largest construction vessel, the “Pioneering Spirit“ is advancing rapidly after the works on the second pipeline was resumed at the end of June. It is expected that the land facilities in the Russian city of Anapa, where the pipeline will begin, will be competed by the end of the year.

The Turkish Stream project from Russia to Turkey replaced the South Stream gas pipeline project. It is expected to supply almost 16 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year for the Turkish domestic market. Moreover, the second pipeline with the same capacity will be used to export natural gas to Europe.
