10.01.2018 16:36- Electric energy consumption is over 13% lower compared to the first seven days of the previous year.

Warm weather shrunk electricity production by 17% in the first seven days of 2018 on an annual basis, Electricity System Operator (ESO) data shows. Total power generation for the period 1-7 January is 880 448 MWh. The decrease in consumption, which is 836 478 MWh, for the same period is 13.37%. The most serious decline is in export, which is 43 970 MWh in this years’ first week, marking a decline of 53.88%.
The data is not surprising, given the warm winter until now in comparison to the cold, which had gripped the country at the same time last year. We remind that low temperatures last winter resulted in an export ban on electricity originating from Bulgaria on 13 January. The ban was lifted on 9 February as for the period export of electric energy suffering a sharp decline of over 80%.
The fall of baseload power plants output of 17.08% represents almost the whole decrease in generation. They produced a total of 781 092 MWh in the first seven days of 2018. Renewable energy sources (RES) production in the transmission system also drops significantly by 41.47% to 15 343 MWh and RES production in the distribution system by 22.49% to 23 916 MWh.
ESO records 60 097 MWh produced by hydropower plants, which is 2.85% less than hydro output in the first seven days of last year.
