![]() Bulgarian State-Run Company to Build and Operate Road Toll System This system is extremely important, it is among the most public services in the country and should be the first self-sustaining one without counting on the state budget, Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) CEO Eng. Doncho Atanasov said
Bulgaria will establish a new state-run company with the purpose to build and operate the country’s long delayed road toll system. This scenario was confirmed on Monday by Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) CEO Eng. Doncho Atanasov a week after PM Boyko Borisov stated the government’s readiness to make such a move, Focus News Agency reported. “Prime-Minister Borisov was right to say that we are about to establish a state-owned company for the operation of the toll system. This system is extremely important, it is among the most public services in the country and should be the first self-sustaining one without counting on the state budget”, Atanasov said, adding that a special press conference on the matter is to be setup soon. According to data presented by Atanasov some 8,000-10,000 freight vehicles travel through the country every day, with heavy transit from Europe towards the Middle East in summer months. This traffic causes great financial losses, Atanasov said. Bulgaria’s toll system tender procedure has seen many halts resulting in a 2-year overall delay. It is estimated at BGN 200 m (about EUR 100 m). ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
