![]() Contractor for Bulgarian Toll System to Be Selected by End-2017 Bulgarian regional development minister Nikolay Nankov expects some BGN 500 m to be generated during the first year of operation of the toll system
End-2017 is a realistic term for Bulgaria to select a contractor for a long delayed toll system for freight road transport that is set to encompass motorways and first class roads, Bulgarian regional development minister Nikolay Nankov said in an interview for BNT. The tender procedure has already been interrupted multiple times due to formal complaints from some of the candidates. Foreign companies such as Slovak SkyToll have expressed interest in the tender, citing procedure compliance issues as a deterrent to participation. “According to the contract we have 12 months to test the efficiency of the system, to eliminate malfunctions, and have a risk assessment. Within this one year period we expect to generate a resource exceeding BGN 500 m”, minister Nankov said. He went on to explain that in parallel with the freight toll system a flexible e-vignette model will be adopted for passenger cars. Road tolls for trucks would also vary according to the hour of the day the roads are being used in order to stimulate off-peak hours travelling.
