The creation of a special bilateral workgroup devised to study the possibilities for the construction of a natural gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Macedonia (FYROM) was suggested by Bulgarian energy minister Temenuzhka Petkova. The idea was suggested by minister Petkova during her meeting with FYROM PM Zoran Zaev in Sofia on Wednesday, the Bulgarian Ministry of Energy said in a press release. Sofia and Skopje have discussed the idea back in 2012, with Bulgarian gas transmission grid operator Bulgargaz expressing its support for a gas interconnector between the two countries. In 2015 FYROM was one of 15 EU and Energy Community member-states which signed a memorandum calling for a common approach in dealing with gas supply diversification and security issues. Building missing interconnections, and the one between Bulgaria and FYROM in particular, was among the measures written in the memorandum. Minister Petkova said that the next step should be gathering information for a feasibility study and a market interest research. Petkova and Zaev have also discussed the progress of gas interconnectors of Bulgaria with Serbia, Greece and Turkey. No published comments Login to comment |
