On 28 May at a ceremony in Zilina the first of class 671 EMU was presented. Skoda Vagonka presented first three-section dual system, double-deck EMUs for Slovak Railways. It will be used on regional lines in Zilina and Kosice. The trains will be delivered in two years after a 96,2 mln. Euro contract signed in 2008. The dual system EMU is successor of 471 class EMU and 575 EJ delivered to Czech Railways (CD).
The double deck EMUs are made by modern technology with asynchronous traction motors controlled with IGBIT transistors. Trains use regenerative braking system for both supply systems. EMU’s are equipped with a measuring electrical power consummation in accordance with EN standard. Trains are with automatic speed control system and GSM-R transmission system.
The comfort for passengers on board is guaranteed with air conditioning and a power supply for mobile computers and other devices. The passenger’s space is with 2+2 seating configuration and is suitable for disabled persons and mothers with children. There is a digital voice and visual information system. The doors are with two wide parts to guarantee quick and easy access to the passengers space. At both ends of the train there is a space for bicycles.
