![]() Bulatom: EDF, U.S. Consortium Interested in Bulgaria’s Belene NPP Project After its cancellation in 2012, the Belene NPP project entailed for NEK a lengthy lawsuit by Russian counterpart Atomstroyexport French energy giant EDF and an unspecified U.S. consortium are interested in the project for Bulgaria’s Belene NPP, Stanislav Georgiev, executive secretary of NGO Bulatom, said in an interview for the Bulgarian National Radio. “The leaders of the country have been saying that there were at least two offers by a private investor [interested] in Belene NPP. We have already heard about a U.S. financial consortium. I find it easier to accept the news about EDF [being interested], as this is the equivalent of Bulgaria’s National Electricity Company (NEK). This is a financially stable company, with a long-term investment ability. This sounds like an excellent opportunity, if it is true, of course”Georgiev told BNR.
After its cancellation in 2012, the Belene NPP project entailed for NEK a lengthy lawsuit by Russian counterpart Atomstroyexport. In June of this year an arbitration court in Geneva ruled that NEK should pay its Russian contractor more than EUR 600 m for two reportedly produced reactors.
Georgiev speculated that the price of the electricity that would be produced by Belene NPP, could be in par with the market price. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
