The Bulgarian employers’ associations represented nation-wide have once more requested a power price decrease, as Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA) called for short-term measures combined with a reform of the energy sector.
The business has presented on multiple occasions a set of measures to restrain the price hikes of electricity for the industry, BICA board chairman Vasil Velev told the Bulgarian National Radio in an interview.
Mr. Velev precised that the business will meet with the Bulgarian government on Tuesday, demanding electricity prices to go back to their levels from August, 2015. Velev said that despite numerous meetings with the government since the summer of 2015, the state has only managed to curb the connection rate of new renewable energy sources to the power system.
He went on to state that the business sees a possibility to cut the so-called “Obligations to Society” pricing component, which is aimed at covering the feed-in tariffs, as soon as Febryary1, but “some legal amendments are necessary for this to happen”.
Mr. Velev said that the employers’ organisations are ready to recur to the “rather extreme measure” street protests, as they did in end-July 2015.
