The Bulgarian Industrial Capital Association (BICA) has demanded that all energy-intensive industries in the country be granted compensations for the expensive electricity they buy. The proposal was announced in a statement of BICA addressed to energy minister Temenuzhka Petkova, economy minister Bozhidar Lukarski, and finance minister Vladislav Goranov.
The BICA has calculated that compensating a wider range of energy-intensive producer would not influence the overall volume of financial resources needed for the compensation mechanism. The AICB has also insisted that all industrial energy consumers benefit from an equal, 85-percent discount from the so-called “green” component of the electricity price, which reflects the RES feed-in tariffs, Investor.bg reported.
The ordonnance that settles the way large-scale electricity consumers should be compensated was announced in mid-June and is yet to be approved by the European Commission (EC). However, the business then protested that no more than 30 very large industrial sites will be allowed to take advantage of the compensations.
Similar measures have been introduced in Romania in 2014.
