For Bulgaria, AES is actively evaluating energy storage solutions to benefit grid stability and the balancing market.
In an announcement released this week, the company said it has also recently launched AES Distributed Energy (www.aesdistributedenergy.com) aiming to offer solar and energy storage solutions to industrial and commercials clients.
AES is the recognized world leader in battery-based energy storage, with 8 years’ experience in the field and more mega-watts deployed than anyone else (www.aesenergystorage.com).
In addition to the 86 MW of interconnected energy storage, equivalent to 172 MW of resource AES currently has in operation, AES has projects in construction or late stage development that are expected to deliver 260 MW of interconnected battery-based energy storage, equivalent to 520 MW of flexible power resource, 25% of which is expected to be on-line by mid-2016.
In Europe, AES is constructing 10 MW of interconnected advanced, battery-based energy storage in the Netherlands, which will provide 20 MW of flexible resource to the electric grid and plans to conclude 100 MW of interconnected storage in Northern Ireland, 10 MW of which is under construction. When completed, both projects will enhance regional power supply, grid efficiency and system reliability at lower cost and increase the region’s ability to integrate renewable energy.
