Bulgaria Seeks Advisor for New Nuclear Unit Construction Roadmap
The environmental impact assessment of the planned new unit was approved by the Bulgarian ministry of Environment and Waters in early October

Bulgarian Energy Holding EAD (BEH EAD), which encompasses seven of the leading state-owned energy companies, announced Nov. 1 that it is opening a procedure for direct negotiation for rewarding a contract with an advisor for the ‘Elaboration of a Roadmap for construction of a new nuclear power capacity in Kozloduy NPP– options for developing the potential investment as an international project ’.

The idea about constructing new nuclear units at the site of Bulgaria’s currently only nuclear power plant in Kozloduy was launched in May 2012 after Boiko Borisov’s cabinet cancelled the much disputed Belene NPP project. A special project company Kozloduy NPP – New Build EAD was established by the management of the power plant.

In early October New Build received positive feedback from the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters (MOEW) regarding the quality of its environmental impact assessment for the planned new unit. According to the company’s website the new unit should be equipped with a 3rd generation light water reactor.
