Publications09.03.2012 New 42 MW Photovoltaic Park in Bulgaria (Photoreport) Publics.bg takes you to the newly opened 42 megawatt Samovodyane and Zlataritsa PV parks built by S. Korean SDN Company and KOSEP On gloomy March 8 Publics.bg headed to the opening of the newest and biggest photovoltaic installation in Bulgaria so far which awaits sunnier days, in order to power at full capacity Veliko Tarnovo and even the neighbouring municipalities.
The mega installation is situated on a hill, some 10 km north from the historical city of Veliko Tarnovo, on what once used to be a military shooting range.
The solar power facilities were inaugurated by South Korean SDN Company and KOSEP (part of the National Electricity Company of S. Korea). The total capacity of the two power plants in the outskirts of the villages of Zlataritsa and Samovodyane, Veliko Tarnovo municipality, is 42 megawatts (21 MW each), making them the biggest solar power generation in the country to this date.
The two PV parks were built in just under 2 years with an investment of EUR 150 m. They are officially the only solar parks to receive a renewable energy license from the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (SEWRC), as well as to have signed a contract for selling electricity to the National Electricity Company (NEK).
740 workers were engaged in the construction of the PV arrays. The S. Korean companies plan to train 50 employees in the next two years which will continue working permanently at the two solar parks.
The new facilities will produce enough electricity to power 20,000 households. SDN Company and KOSEP expect that the repayment period of the investment will be between 12 and 15 years.
In the next days NEK will take over the substation in which the two companies invested EUR 5 m.
The Ceremony was attended by deputy-minister of economy, energy and tourism Julieta Hubenova who stated that building such renewable stations is part of the government’s plan for reaching 16% of green energy by 2020 in response to the EU 20/20/20 plan.
SDN Company and KOSEP received their certificates for renewable energy, promising to continue their participation in other such projects in the industry. They said, however, that these two PV parks will be the only large-scale investment in Bulgaria at this point.
