Deputy Head of Unit at EC (DG "Regional Policy") Carsten Rasmussen expressed his support and gratitude to Bulgarian ministry of Transport and the National Railway Infrastructure Company (NRIC) for the excellent work on finished part of the railway line Plovdiv-Svilengrad.
They made a test journey from Dimitrovgrad to Krumovo with UK-build locomotive Bulgarian class 87 from fleet of Bulgarian private railway company. The EC representatives visited the renovated railway stations in Karadjilovo and Katunica.
The railway line Plovdiv-Svilengrad is part of European railway corridors IV and IX and has a lenght of 150 km. The reconstruction and electrification of the line is the first major railway project financed with cohesion funds of EU and EIB. The travel time from Plovdiv to Dimitrovgrad will be reduced from 105 to 60 minutes.
