Varna thermal power plant which is operated by CEZ Bulgaria has activated three of its cold reserve units. This will allow the power station to secure some 468,720 MWh for the rest of the month.
The move comes in the fourth day since the beginning of workers’ protest in Maritsa East Mines, the country’s biggest coal provider.
Varna TPP ensures 60% of Bulgaria’s cold reserve. The three units at the power plant can start operation in 5 hours after a request by the Electricity System Operator. The power plant is the second biggest station on the Balkans and in Bulgaria with a total of 1260 MW installed capacity.
