The Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Water (MOEW) announced its project call for municipalities for construction of water supply, sewerage and treatment in agglomerations with 2000-10000 equivalent inhabitants. The total amount of the financing under this procedure is 300 million BGN (about 153 million EUR). The funds are provided by the Operational Program “Environment”.
The municipalities that are applicable are defined with the latest report of Bulgaria regarding the treatment of urban waste waters, the ministry reminded. The deadline for applications is August 15, 2012, and applicant municipalities should first pass through preliminary consultations regarding the scope and the main parameters of their projects.
The accent of this procedure is on financing projects with higher level of readiness that are about to or have already started construction works. According to the OP “Environment” requirements, all construction works should be finished until the end of 2013. With the implementation of these projects Bulgaria will increase the share of urban population connected to water sewerage and treatment in order to acquire the targets set in Directive 91/271/EC for the environment-friendly treatment of urban waste water.
