“I am satisfied by the talks we had and would like to thank for the attention that the Bulgarian prime minister Boiko Borisov gave to the development of the relations between Russia and Bulgaria. It is namely because of these efforts that allowed us to develop the relations in several key sectors and to sign several key documents.”. This was stated by the chairman of the government of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin after his meeting with the Bulgarian prime minister Boiko Borisov, the Bulgarian government’s presscenter announced.

The technical project for the construction of the Belene NPP will be approved by the end of this year, as negotiated between the two prime ministers on Saturday, when Putin visited Bulgaria. “We treat with respect the position of the Bulgarian prime minister, who insists that this project should become an European one. We are ready to work with our partners in the EU and we have an active dialogue with them”, the Russian prime minister said. “This project is big, large and requires very large finances. The Russian side is ready to make it with the most favorable conditions - with giving credit resources, supplying equipment, cooperation with local companies, adding other Western European companies to the project, supplying and utilizing nuclear fuel”, Putin added.

“South Stream is not related at all to the natural gas prices”, the Russian prime minister said. He reminded that the problems with Ukraine caused the stopping of gas supplies to other countries as well and this is why intermediaries should be removed. “We need a direct pipeline between Russia and Bulgaria in order to guarantee at 100% the supplies of gas for Bulgaria and other European countries, he said. “I would like to stress the enormous importance of South Stream which is of European significance. Leading European companies from Italy and France have jkoined it. Gazprom and Bulgarian Energy Holding are preparing the technical-economic evaluation of the project. Today an agreement between the two companies has been signed.”, the Russian prime minister said on Saturday.
