NewsFrom Bulgaria08.08.2014 13:58 Bulgarian Energy Holding, Gazprom Sign Deal for Future Black Sea Gas Transport via South Stream Ex-economy and energy minister Dragomir Stoinev stated that a contract between BEH and Gazprom was underway which would allow any Bulgarian Black Sea gas found in the future to be transported onshore via South Stream
The state-owned Bulgarian Energy Holding (BEH) will sign “within days” a contract with Russia’s Gazprom that would allow the Russian company to transport gas from any Bulgarian Black Sea reserves which could be discovered in the future via the planned South Stream Pipeline, ex-economy and energy minister Dragomir Stoinev stated in an interview for bTV. BEH and Gazprom are partnering in a joint venture for the construction of South Stream gas pipeline in Bulgaria. Regarding evidence that Bulgaria is working actively on South Stream despite promising its suspension under EU pressure, Stoinev argued that the EU has requested only "no further tender procedures to be launched". Stoinev admitted that he gave in to “rumours in the media” that two of the five Bulgarian companies in the construction consortium for South Stream were related to the controversial media mogul and ex-mp Delian Peevski. "I did not want them to be in [the project], leaving just “Glavbolgarstroy”, “Ponsstroy Engineering” and “PST Holding", Stoinev said. Gennady Timchenko’s Stroytransgaz which was also initially in the consortium was substituted with Gazprom subsidiary Centrgaz, in order for Bulgaria to avoid U.S. sanctions, ex-minister Stoinev explained.
