Electricity distribution company EVN Bulgaria Elektrosnabdiavane EAD (EVN ES) said it addressed the state-owned National Electricity Company (NEC) with a settlement proposal regarding a dispute on mutual debts running for the last two months.
“EVN offered NEC a mutually beneficial settlement of the RES payments situation”, EVN said in a statement on Wednesday, without précising any of the major points in its proposal, as the dispute is to be further discussed during a public hearing under the auspice of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission planned for next week.
NEC has been urging the three regional electric utilities in Bulgaria, managed by local offices of Austrian EVN and Czech CEZ and Energo-Pro, to pay some BGN 350 m (about EUR 175 m) for electricity. The three companies have been partially withholding from paying for the electricity they are obliged to buy from the state-owned company due to unpaid counter-debts for renewable energy. Electric utilities which also manage the distribution networks, as well as the Transmission System Operator (ESO), are obliged to buy all the renewable energy produced at higher feed-in tariffs, for which they are compensated by NEC.
EVN ES has also requested from the Bulgarian energy regulator a postponement of the public hearing on the matter scheduled for Monday, April 28. The distribution company said it needs more time to study new evidences presented by NEC during the previous public hearing on April 7, 2014. EVN expressed doubt in the pertinence of the evidences, as they said they have requested that the regulator precise their relation to the accusations.
