There are investors interested in the construction of new planned capacity at Bulgaria’s sole operating nuclear power plant at Kozloduy, Valentin Nikolov, CEO of Kozloduy NPP, stated without disclosing the names of particular companies.
The idea for a new capacity managed by an independent project company was embraced by the center-right government of GERB leader Boiko Borisov as a more feasible replacement of the two operational 1000-megawatt units at Kozloduy which are going to be closed within the next 10 years.
Nikolov stated that the new capacity could come to reality as soon as 2020, the urge to build a new reactor at the site of Kozloduy being largely increased by the referendum held on Sunday regarding the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria. Despite the low participation rate of a little over 20%, the referendum managed to bring back to the parliament the debate over a new unit in Kozloduy versus an entirely new nuclear station in Belene. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
