Solaris has delivered the first 5 of a total of 39 new solo buses running on methane intended for the public transport service in the city of Burgas, Burgas Municipality’s press center announced today.

The methane vehicles followed the delivery of 28 articulated diesel buses by the same brand. All these new vehicles should start transporting Burgas citizens in mid-February, after passing technical assessment.

The modernization of the public transport fleet is part of the project Integrated Urban Transport of Burgas which obtained gratuitous funding from OP Regional Development 2007 – 2013.

This integrated project aimed at improving public mobility in the city of Burgas is estimated at BGN 130 m (about EUR 6.5 m). A part from new bus fleet monitored by a GPS system, it encompasses the rehabilitation of boulevards and streets and a new bus line linking the northern and the southern part of the city. The plan of Burgas Municipality envisages changing the current fixed price of bus tickets with a flexible tariff based on the length of the trip. Eventually citizens will be presented with a mobile app reporting location-based bus schedules.

A Center for Public Transport Management will also be created, along with a modernized bus depot of the municipal company Burgasbus.
