Chevron will not start exploration of shale gas in Bulgaria until 2015. It will present its work programme to the Bulgarian government, if no moratorium is imposed on shale gas in the next few years, deputy energy minister Delian Dobrev said, as quoted by BTA.
On June 15 the government gave green light to the exploration of Novi Pazar region.
Dobrev added that according to the plans of Chevron two of the drills would take place in 2015 and another two the following year.
Chevron warned that they will need time to prepare an environmental and seismic assessment which does not require any drilling.
In the past months the decision of the government provoked many protest not only by citizens, but also by the local administration and the parliamentary opposition.
Economy and energy minister Traicho Traikov however denied that the seismic assessment and the exploration would lead to dramatic damage on the nature. Furthermore PM Boiko Borissov said that if the parliament decides to put a moratorium on shale gas drills, the government would comply with this decision. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
