Is there an Infrastructure for Cooperation and Development?
Regional Conference on Infrastructure, Logistics and Transport, 22nd March 2011, 8:00 a.m., The Regent Esplanade, Zagreb. Organizer: Infoarena Group
AUTHOR: publics.bg

How to launch and fund the infrastructure projects? How to meet the growing needs and seize a piece of the market (increase income and employment)? Can one country act alone, or is there need for regional cooperation? How to use the potentials and the regional location as well as existing infrastructure inherited from the former state? Which is thereby the role of politics, and which of business? What are the possibilities of using EU funds? What is first - infrastructure or logistics? Why is multi-modal transport hit in the world?

These issues will be addressed at the Regional Conference on Infrastructure, Logistics and Transport. About political preconditions for the development of infrastructure, the exploitation potentials of the region and the possibilities that open the membership of countries from the region in the European Union, on the conference will discuss high-level government officials from EU countries and the region.

A recent launch of the Cargo 10, a joint regional rail transport company, confirms that awareness of the need for stronger regional cooperation is growing. The aim of this connecting is to bring part of the railway transport of goods between the Central and South-eastern Europe at a pan-European transport corridor X passing through this countries. Support and interest for cooperation in the project came from EU countries as well. Parallel to this initiative only in Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have been announced (or already ongoing) investments worth almost 800 million Euros in rail infrastructure and procurement of new trains, with support from pre-accession funds of the EU, EBRD and European Investment Bank (EIB).

How to take advantage of multimodal transport and which are the prerequisites for it? Multimodal transport successfully connects all major industries and means with modern technologies of transport in international transport corridors. The Conference will present concepts and models, and new insights and practical examples from of the EU.

It is “an eternal” question which side should take the initiative for infrastructure projects, i.e. whether a built infrastructure attracts logistics and other business, or should the business itself give incentive to build the infrastructure?

The prospect of EU membership to countries in the region puts the challenge of adjustment, but also opens new opportunities for improving business and construction of infrastructure with the help of EU funds. What are the prerequisites for getting those funds and what are the most successful models in their use? About all this will speak at a conference the top experts from the region and the EU, which will present the most significant examples from the EU and the world.
