Yesterday Vivacom and Alcatel-Lucent announced that on Tuesday they started a five-year cooperation in strategic development of the fixed and mobile networks of the Bulgarian telecom operator. From March 1 Vivacom will transfer the development of technical and operation activities of its telecom networks to the network of the French giant. This step will save costs to the Bulgarian operator and will help the concentration in its main business to provide quality network service to Vivacom’s customers in Bulgaria. Also it will help telecom operator to offer new customer targeting services.

This is the first major project in Bulgarian telecommunications. According to the contract 80% of the operations of the telecom’s operational department will transfer to the outsourcing partner. The process will affect all stages from specialists to the managers. As part of the memorandum with Alcatel-Lucent, around 3000 employees will join the team of the outsourcing partner. They will keep all employment contracts and social benefits. Vivacom will keep the functions on planning and development of its network. The telecom will control the network activities of its outsourcing partner.

The signing of the outsourcing agreement is the last phase of the strategic transformation of Vivacom. The transformation started in the beginning of last year with merger of its fixed and mobile segments and continues with rebranding in September 2009. The main target of this process is to transform the telecom from technical to customer-oriented company.

The partnership with Alcatel-Lucent is a logical step following the tendencies of global telecommunication market. Alcatel-Lucent has a significant experience in planning, start of operations, support and expanding of telecom’s networks. The company has 85 networks, servicing 185 millions customers around the world. Alcatel-Lucent is partnering with companies such as AT&T, Orange, Telecom New Zealand, Bharti Airtel, BT Global services.
