The Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) will decide whether to withdraw CEZ Electro’s license or to terminate the procedure in about a month and a half. That was the announcement made by Ivan Ivanov, the head of the State Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, at a recent press conference.

EWRC experts have already completed the investigation of the CEZ license withdrawal procedure which started in March, 2014. Following an order by Mr. Ivanov, on Monday there will be a newly-formed working group which will draw up the report. Mr. Ivanov pointed out that the order would ensure the period would not be over than a month. Afterwards, within two weeks’ time, the commissioners would be discussing the report. Then, EWRC would come up with a closed session decision. Mr. Ivanov refrained from commenting on any of the results from the investigation.

Mr. Ivanov also said that he had signed orders to form three working groups which were going to carry out an investigation of the year’s investment programs of the three power suppliers. EWRC made it clear that thanks to this information, together with the data from the last two years, it would have a better idea of how the 3-year regulatory period investment programs had been implemented.

The head of EWRC confirmed once again that the commission would not allow significant increase in power prices on the regulated market. He also pointed out that EWRC approved a 1.5% increase in the price for the price year. Mr. Ivanov outlined two reasons for his statement that no significant increase would be introduced. On one hand, that was EWRC’s conservative policy which aims at maintaining public interest. On the other hand, the amount of increase that the three companies declared was similar to the ones from the last couple of years. He said that the requested increase last year varied between 20-52%. Non-confidential versions of price declarations of all companies will be available on EWRC website on 17th, April.

Ivan Ivanov also commented on the fact that he provided Kornelia Ninova, BSP leader, with information for the prices requested by CEZ. He said that he had carried out his constitutional duty. He had provided information only about CEZ because Mrs. Ninova herself requested that particular kind of information. He also stated that if any other MP requested that kind of data, the commission would do the same.
Since EWRC personnel is being renewed, the head of the commission said he hoped the new members would be moral and independent experts.
