Bulgaria and Turkey have a mututal understanding that the development of gas infrastructure encompassing more countries on the Balkans and Europe would guarantee better energy security for the entire continent. This was a common statement made by Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov and his Turkish counterpart Binali Yildirim. The two met in Istanbul during the World Petroleum Congress on Monday. Borisov further said that constructing a gas interconnector between the two countries would be ‘a big step forward’, adding that Bulgaria supports the development of the Southern Gas Corridor. “One of the countries with key role in its development is Turkey. We would like to state our support [for the project] and active work for its accomplishment”, Borisov said, as quoted by BTA. The Bulgarian PM also met with Russian energy minister Alexander Novak. Borisov stressed that the settlement on the Belene NPP arbitration allowed Sofia and Moscow to continue talks on possible collaborations in the energy sector. The Bulgarian PM further reminded that the country’s energy minister Temenuzhka Petkova and Gazprom’s CEO Alexey Miller signed a roadmap in June of this year, with expansion of Bulgaria’s gas transport grid. Currently 16.7 bn cub. m of gas go through Bulgaria per year, with 80 per cent of all compressor stations on the Balkans situated in the country. No published comments Login to comment |
