![]() Bulgaria Wants to Renegotiate Gazprom Gas Price Every Year Bulgarian interim energy minister Nikolay Pavlov said Bulgaria will object a Gazprom proposal giving Hungarian, Slovak and Polish gas suppliers access to the Bulgarian market, without a reciprocal access option
Bulgaria wants to have the ability to renegotiate the price of natural gas it receives from Russia’s Gazprom on an annual basis, Bulgarian interim energy minister Nikolay Pavlov said in an interview for BNR, referring to the country’s position on the EU-Gazprom competition probe. He added that Bulgaria would like to adopt one of Gazprom’s proposals to appease monopoly claims, namely the one that stipulates Bulgaria should have the right to renegotiate gas prices every six months during the first two years after the new conditions become applicable. Gazprom originally proposed that gas price is negotiated with Bulgaria every two years, with the country having the right to request an extraordinary renegotiation every fifth year. Minister Pavlov stressed that discussions at the current stage do not tackle the price itself, but rather the price negotiation framework. Pavlov said Bulgaria will object a Gazprom proposal giving Hungarian, Slovak and Polish gas suppliers access to the Bulgarian market, without a reciprocal access option. He stressed that Sofia will also insist on the cancellation of the take-or-pay clause in gas contracts with Gazprom. The statements of Bulgaria’s state-run gas companies are expected to be submitted to the European Commission in due time, Pavlov said. ![]() No published comments Login to comment |
